Default format time again *updated raid0 specs*

format time... hoping to be back up and running soon. Bought another single platter .12 500gb seagate. The single was getting around 120 with the hdd benchmarks I'll get a screen shot of the raptors the seagate and the seagates in raid 0 before I nuke n pave.

Yes yes yes i realize ssd's are faster they simply aren't large enough to have my money yet. The best part about these screenshots is this is real world use... not an empty un-used and abused drives. I'll post more when the format is finished.

This not big enough? It's not only 10 times as fast, but it's also, I dunno, a hundred times more expensive? :p

Or you could get a 480GB single SSD for a lil over a grand. Best deals, about $1.67 per gig, are in the 120-240 gig range.

That's why my raptors in RAID 0 looked like before one dumped it's guts on me. My VelociRaptor 300GB is just as fast as the RAIDed raptors

The size holds people back from buying them. I can't fit all my programs on 80gb adobe creative suite takes like 12 then theres games.

Holy crap!! That 500GB is fassssst homie! What's going on with those raptors? I'm glad to see they're still tickin' at least

    I have a 500GB Seagate, but it's a .11 version..

Whatdo you think your speeds will get to if you raid the two .11 seagates?

Dude... 42 bux for this 500gb drive. I really can't go wrong at that price and its cheaper than buying a dvd burner and 500gb of disks. SSD's are still way over priced imo.

Anyone have a program for win7 like nlite? Vlite isn't working at all.

I install win 7 off a thumb drive, I just copy the RAID drivers to a separate folder on the drive and when it asks where to install windows, click on "add drivers" and browse to "my computer" then to the drive, then to the folder where the RAID drivers are located.

I run 64 bit Win 7, so I load up the 32bit drivers first so the 32bit install program likes 'em, then once they're loaded and I'm back at the "where do you want to install windows" screen, I click "add drivers" again and load up the 64bit ones. Then create a partition, format, install and BAM! chili dog.

SSD's are "overpriced" at the moment, but you have to step back and look at what you get. Superior speed or price-per-gig. I'm running to 60gig bastards in RAID 0... $400 later. I wouldn't ever go back to spinner drives again, but there's really no need for me to. I look at most everything I buy like this... save up, buy the best now and you won't have to spend more for a LONG time to come.

Not only that, but you can run a single $100-$200 SSD as your OS drive and make it so all your program files and your shit in my documents is saved to a spinner drive automatically, kinda like networked, but on the same system.

Oh, I forgot, here is some info on how to put win7 install dvd on a flash drive.

I reckon they should nearly double the raptors but then its gonna be a 1tb drive and seek times on regular old cheap drives aren't nearly as fast. I'll use one of the raptors as a swap file drive or a game drive not sure yet. The biggest problem I have with the raptors is once the raid is just over half full it really starts to slow down noticeably. Otherwise they have been fantastic drives Minty.

This is working awesome thanks again. My 1st time using a USB drive to install an OS... you saved me hours of fucking around. And the new numbers up from the seagates... pretty impressive for spinners. 42 bux per drive 120 for the raid card.

Yeah dude, loading an OS from a flash drive is the ONLY way to go. Loading onto my SSD's, before the 1st reboot, takes less than 10 minutes.

Installing the OS, not booting up.
