Intel® Core™ i7-820QM Processor ( 45nm, 8MB L3 Cache, 1.73GHz )
Intel® Core™ i7-920XM Processor Extreme Edition ( 45nm, 8MB L3 Cache, 2.0GHz ) [+$555.00] Is the difference in the 920XM worth $555 Vs the 820QM? I know nothing about the i7's. Any pros out there? |

Laptop, Mobile Processors
The biggest difference is that it is overclockable? I don't know that I would even overclock a laptop, even if Intel says it's ok. |

The 920 has a faster clock, and maybe a higer multiplier...but I think thats all as far as differences. I could be wrong though. |

the amount of data bandwidth the proc can handle at once. the QPI for standard I7 procs is 4.8GT/s for the extreme edition it is 6.4GT/s guess a weird analogy of that would be comparing a 4 banger civic to a big block V8 truck in how fast it can consume fuel! lol the extreme can handle far more data volume and process it faster at stock speeds than the regular procs can at overclocked speeds. i'd still only get the regular one though |

Cost a bit but I'll use it as my mobile recording machine soon. So hopefully it will pay for itself in a short period of time. And I've been just waiting to upgrade my current system for almost a year.
