Okay, now which MoBo slot is it in? Any power cables or fan cables around it? Use Creative Lab's auto update tool, it will get you the newest drivers. The X-fi Fatal1ty with 64MB of XRam works better, as I had the version similar to what you have now, and same cracks and pops. Make sure the Crystalizer is disabled, too.

I can tell you a bit about sound cards as I'm all about great sound. Honestly IF I came into heaps of money to burn I'd spend a ton on audio gear. ANYWAY.

Sound cards and Operating systems. As I have migrated from win95 through to win7 I've noticed the sound cards optimized for the previous OS do not work as well with the next OS. Always with bad sound looping problems or crackling issues. Or just plain not working right at all issues.

When windows moved from 16 bit sound to a 32 bit OS they needed to program shims to allow these cards to even function let alone produce any kind of quality sound. Now we are flooded with 32 bit sound cards and some are using 64 bit OS's. So here we are again 10 years later using shims again with out a true hardware sound card when you think about it. I know my auzentech performs flawlessly under XP 32bit as I'm sure win7-32bit would be the same.

64bit with my auzentech sucked for months and months. In fact I stopped using win7 all together until they released new drivers which do work.. but not as well compared to XP. Just so you are aware; auzentechs use the Xfi sound chip without the stellar Creative support which email me links to my help file HTML style.

as minty would say

just saying...
