I think you need to lower the DRAM frequency in the BIOS, it is tapped out at 400, get the FSB above 1333. I miss those days, my Q9400 would go to 1600 FSB, 3.2 Ghz, on ASUS board. EVGA 680i, sitting around collecting dust now, would allow 1800 FSB with my Q6600, almost 4Ghz on air using Zalman's 9700. Now I got to mess with a different way to overclock with Core i7 920 CPU, ASUS P6T and Zalman's 9900. That is a good MoBo, though.

yep what cruzin said.. dump the ram down a notch and get the fsb up. That way you get the faster dram timings 4-4-4 instead of 5-5-5. If you look at the SPD you want the one that is in the 4's. You adjust it back to the 400mhz timings by turning up the Front side bus. (overclocking the ram and cpu at the same time.) Turning up the Bus speed changes this.

Other guys leave their ram alone and OC only the cpu. On a half decent air cooling that cpu will do 3.5+ @ 1.35-/+ volts no problem. Basically you bump up the cpu until it blue screens. Do that by increasing the multiplier. When it crashes bump the cpu volts up a bit do not go past 1.4v EVER. Every time you increase the voltage you increase the temperature and heat you need to dissipate. Stock cooling doesn't remove heat that well keep that in mind.

Keep in mind sometimes you hit what is called a memory hole. Where the frequencies the electronics on the motherboard cause the electronics around them to not function correctly or become unstable. Someone explained this to me as vibrations in the traces on the motherboard itself. This isn't the literal sense of a memory hole but it's as layman as I can come up with. Strum 2 strings on a guitar so hard they hit each other kinda thing. For example: My memory hole is at 3.45ish - 3.57 ghz. If i goto 3.6 or 3.7 its completely stable... it wont even boot at the aforementioned frequencies. Don't be upset if you hit a spot where nothing happens try going a full 100mhz-200mhz higher to get past the hole.

Alright. I have no clue how to do any of that. I have a huge aftermarket heat sink.
Newegg.com - XIGMATEK HDT-S1284EE 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks
and a total of 6 other fans in my full tower.

From what I just read in a PDF, the details say 1600 maximum FSB setting with that board. Your best bet would be to visit their forums, and see what others have done to OC that MoBo. Most likely, it will be easy and might go higher.

turn that heat sink into a push pull with 2 of the same fans. Push / Pull means one push in one pulls out in the same direction. You'll need some kinda temperature monitoring program as well. I use Hardware Monitor from the same site as cpuz.

Read the manual from your mother board regarding bios settings. CPU multiplier settings and ram timings are what your are looking for. volt settings are the other main one. I hope your bios is OC friendly because I'll tell you right here and now dude. OC'ing is a patient mans game. I spent weeks testing different settings to find 3 or 4 stable ones. Your mobo may also have the option to save settings in the bios. If it doesn't you're gonna be writing everything down.
